Chariots of Fire
There are experiences in our lives that remind us that we are not alone in our efforts to stand for truth and righteousness. There are also other experiences that remind us that there certainly are forces of evil that oppose these values. It can become a real struggle to stay on track. The enemy in this battle is very real—and relentless in its quest for the souls of men.

My Mother related an experience she had and referred to the story of the prophet Elisha found in 2 Kings Chapter 6, where the king of Syria sends his army to eliminate the prophet. They arrive at the city by night, and as the morning breaks, Elisha’s servant discovers that they are surrounded by the enemy and comes to share this alarming news with his master. Elisha, however, is undaunted and asks the Lord to “open” the eyes of his frightened servant. The Lord does so and the servant is then privileged to see that the mountain is covered with unseen forces and their “chariots of fire”, ready to defend the Lord’s servant if needed. Elisha’s response was, “Fear not, for they that be with us are more than they that be with them.” I hope that we can remember that we are never alone in our battles—that there are unseen forces waiting to defend us so long as we remain on the Lord’s side.

They that be with us are more than they that be with them...

May our eyes be opened...
Chariots of Fire (Reference 2 Kings 6:8-23)
By Michael D. Squires

Master, have you seen the hosts that surround us?
The enemy is there, on every side.
And they seek to confuse and confound us –
My heart is in despair; how will we survive?

If I give my all, I’m still afraid I’ll fall;
Master – how shall we do?

May your eyes be opened to see a little higher,
The mountain’s covered with horses and chariots of fire;
Fear not; for they that be with us are more - than they that be with them.

In my life there are hosts that surround me,
The enemy is there, on every side.
And they seek to confuse and confound me –
My heart is in despair; how can I survive?

If I give my all, I’m still afraid I’ll fall;
Master – how shall we do?

May our eyes be opened to see a little higher,
The mountain’s covered with horses and chariots of fire;
Fear not; for they that be with us are more - than they that be with them.

Those who stay on the Lord’s side, He will honor and inspire,
We just need to open our eyes and see his chariots of fire…

Can’t you see the mighty angels that come down to cheer us on?
Those that went before us now join in to sing this song.
Fear not…

May our eyes be opened to see a little higher,
The mountain’s covered with horses and chariots of fire;
Fear not; for they that be with us are more - than they that be with them.
